Contacting Campers
Can my camper call home?
Campers must leave cell phones at home and do not have access to camp phones. If the need arises for us to get in touch with you, rest assured that we will call you.
How can I communicate with my camper while they are at camp?
Mail! Receiving and sending mail is a classic part of the summer camp experience. Be sure to send your camper with supplies–paper, pen, envelopes, stamps–and practice addressing envelopes at home (or pre-address them).
Snail mail takes a couple days, so send mail early to ensure it arrives during the session. Additionally, keep in mind that it will take a few days for your camper’s letters to arrive back home.
Address mail as follows:
Camper’s Name, Session camper is attending
Camp Hardtner
2393 Camp Hardtner Rd.
Pollock, LA 71467
Mail received after a session’s end will be returned to sender when possible.
What about packages from home with food/candy/snacks?
Do not send food/candy/snacks to your camper. Food in the cabins leads to bugs in the cabins. It will be confiscated and disposed of by their counselor.
What about if my camper is homesick? (Or I’m kidsick?)
Homesickness is normal for everyone. Whether heading off to camp or a business trip we all miss the people and things we know and love. Homesickness is a natural and normal feeling. It is a skill we must gain in life in order to ever leave our parents’ home. For many, summer camp is a great opportunity to practice self-regulating that feeling, to grow and mature.
We recommend taking a look at the American Camp Association “Homesickness Dos and Don’ts” to help your camper (and you) prepare for camp.
