Camp Hardtner is pleased to announce that Blair Johnson has returned to camp as its new Assistant Director. Blair is no stranger to the Hardtner community, having previously served as an intern. In this new role, she will support year-round operations, program development, and staff leadership, helping to continue Camp Hardtner’s mission of forming community, nurturing faith, and creating meaningful experiences for campers of all ages.
Camp has been a constant in Blair’s life since she was four years old. Her camp journey began at St. Crispin’s, the Episcopal camp serving Oklahoma, where she proudly held the title as a child of “Assistant to the Camp Nurse” (her mother). From those early days in the nurse’s station, Blair’s involvement in camp grew to include a wide range of roles, from camper at St. Crispin’s to intern at Camp Hardtner and Associate Director at Camp Wright in Maryland, along with several other leadership and program positions along the way.
As an Episcopalian and lifelong camper, Blair believes deeply in the impact of camp ministry. “I believe camp is one of the strongest missional tools our church has for youth and young adults,” she shares. “Through camp I learned to ask questions, think critically, and begin forming my own beliefs. I built leadership, communication, and professional skills.”
Blair also reflects on the lasting impact of intentional community. “Growing up, I spent at least one week each year at camp immersed in what intentional community could look and feel like – a reference point for what is possible when people commit to shared values and caring for one another. Camp is a place where all are welcome, where joy is abundant, and where difficult emotions can be held gently with others.”
“I believe in the work of camp, and Camp Hardtner is a beacon of the good that could be,” Blair said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to help steward this piece of sacred piney forest.” Camp Hardtner looks forward to the experience, perspective, and passion Blair brings as she steps into this leadership role and continues her journey with the camp community.
