From Your 2022 Head Counselor, Emily Knight
Helloooo Camp Hardtner!
I am beyond excited to announce that I will be serving as your Head Counselor for summer 2022!
A little background on me– I am from Baton Rouge and am currently finishing up my senior year at Fordham University in New York City. I’m set to graduate this May with a degree in International Political Economy, and plan on going to law school for environmental policy either this fall or next!
Camp Hardtner has been a big part of my life since before I was even around– my parents met at Senior High in 1986 and both worked on staff during their summers in college (my dad was Head Counselor too!). I started coming to First Camp when I was seven years old, and it’s been one of my highlights of every year ever since. I remember wanting to be a counselor so badly as a kid and dreaming about the day that my friends and I would be the ones doing upfronts and leading games. After working on staff, I can easily say that it lived up to my expectations and more. Working at Camp Hardtner is as much fun as I could’ve hoped, but it has also made me so appreciative of the community we build here and the life lessons we impart to every camper we encounter.
After working on Permanent Staff in 2019, I was heartbroken when we had to cancel our program in 2020. It made me all too aware of how crucial it is for our campers to have this space to run around and freely be themselves. Though our program looked a bit different in 2021, the joy was palpable as we welcomed everyone back to Camp Hardtner, and I truly cannot wait to have everyone back this year for another unforgettable summer!
I highly recommend that you register your camper ASAP, so they can secure a spot at one of our sessions. See you soon!
Peace, love, and milk & cookies
